He brought the glass of Champaign to his lips, taking a sip before smiling as he listened to what the gentleman in front of him was saying. His attention was drawn from the conversation at the warm bubble of laughter from across the room.
He smiled at the sight of Chloe; blonde hair slightly curled framing her face, green silk dress hugging her curves in just the right places. She was a vision of beauty surrounded by people, Champaign glass in hand as she spoke animatedly with her empty one.
He still couldn’t believe that she agreed to host the party with him. He considered it a large victory in their never-ending tennis match of a relationship. She must have felt his eyes on her because she looked up and grinned in his direction.
He smiled and held up his glass it in her direction. She tilted her head, warmth in her eyes as she did the same before going back to her conversation. It didn’t surprise him how well she fit into his world; though he was sure it surprised her.
So high tonight and I don't feel like coming down
Chloe trusted him with everything, but her heart. She’d been slowly opening up to him more and more lately and they’d had several turning points in their relationship, but tonight was by far the greatest. He had won a battle tonight and eventually Oliver hoped to win the war.
Out of the corner of her eye she saw him turn back toward the people around him, laughing easily as if he hadn’t just missed part of the conversation. She loved seeing him in his element. Their first public outing was going better than she could have hoped.
Chloe felt more comfortable then she thought she would. The event was exciting, being around all these people, doing something normal for once. She expected it to be awkward…forced, but it wasn’t. She felt high tonight and she didn’t feel like coming down.
He spent months asking her to Gala’s and charity balls and every time she had to see the disappointment on his face when she turned him down, the harder it got to refuse him. Taking the plunge into Oliver’s world tonight after all this time had been scary, but with him by her side she’d managed to get through it fairly easily.
I could lie to you all my days but you're the one
You're the one
She would have to remember that for the future. The thought startled her. When had she started considering the future with Oliver? She turned her head in his direction and as he stood there grin on his face, confidence in his stance, it hit her.
She could try to lie to herself for all her days, but Oliver Queen was the one. Every time he gave her that knowing smile, every time he listened to her darkest secrets without judgment, every time he held her when she tried to push him away, it all made sense now.
She excused herself calmly before making her way over to Oliver. When the three men around him no longer had their attention on him, but at something behind him he shifted catching sight of Chloe. He smiled at her and before he could say anything her lips were pressing softly against his.
And I'm a fool for waiting so long to let you know
Her public display shocked him momentarily before his arms came around her as he deepened the kiss. When they finally pulled apart half the room’s attention was on them. Chloe’s face was flushed as Oliver glanced down on her eyebrow raised, voice soft as he moved a curl away from her face.
“Not that I’m complaining, but what was that?”
“I’m sorry.”
He frowned.
“For what?”
She gave him a sheepish grin.
“I’m sorry that it took me this long to catch up. I’m a fool for waiting so long to let you know.”
Humor danced in his eyes at the inconvenient time her feelings chose to make themselves known. He was the one. Oliver had known that for some time. He was just waiting for his Sidekick to catch up and thank god she finally did.
He chuckled lightly before leaning down, placing a brief kiss on her forehead, and pulling her to his side with an arm around her waist. He spoke against her hair as they faced their guests.
“I’m just glad you finally caught up. For a while there I didn’t think you would. So…we on the same page now?”
“Same page.”
“Good.”
Chloe placed a palm flat against his chest leaning into him. He could see the emotion behind her eyes. She had finally let go, no turning back because Oliver Queen was the one.
