Mia let out a frustrated sigh and dropped her textbook heavily onto the coffee table. “I don’t get it,” She said annoyed as she glared at the book in front of her. She and Ian had spent the last three hours studying for finals and she was pretty sure her brain had melted into a useless mass of goo. “Remind me again why I’m bothering with this?”

Ian glanced up at the ceiling and pinched the bridge of his nose. He loved his girlfriend, he did, but she was driving him crazy. She was stressed out about finals for school and adding on the pregnancy hormones and he was pretty sure he wouldn’t make it until the end of the week with her crazy ass mood swings.

“Mia, you need to calm down. Stress isn’t good for the baby.” He said for about the thirtieth time. “You’re doing this because this course is required in order for us to graduate.” He told her as he reached his hands back and clasped them together behind his head stretching slightly. “Just take a deep breath and we’ll start again in a couple of minutes.”

Mia groaned and let herself fall back against the couch, her hand resting on her slightly protruding stomach. “Do we have to?” She asked sending him a slightly pout. She was tired of studying. All she wanted was to rest with her feet up and watch Die Hard with a bowl of ice cream and pickles.

Ian sighed. “Yes, Mia we have to. You know this is important. You’ll get it eventually and I promise to keep helping until you do,” He said pausing for a minute as he glanced at her, “Okay?” He asked lightly.

Mia pursed her lips as she watched her boyfriend. “Can we at least take a break?” She asked hopefully before rubbing her stomach. “Our daughter is hungry.” She said with a grin.

Ian shook his head and chuckled as he put his book down next to her. “Okay, okay. Relax and I’ll go get you some food, but after you eat it we need to get through this next chapter.” He waited until she nodded and then made his way down the hallway towards the kitchen.

Mia watched him go and she grinned as she lifted her feet up and shifted back on the couch. She rubbed a hand over her stomach and smirked. “You’re Dad is too easy kiddo,” She said before closing her eyes and enjoying the feel of the cool air moving through the room. She still didn’t understand how Ian was so cold. It was nice in the penthouse.

Mia opened her eyes and glanced down at her stomach. “Your Dad thinks you’re making me crazy,” she lowered her voice, “But between you and me I think he’s the one that’s a little crazy,” She joked. As soon as the words left her mouth she felt a sharp thump against her hand and her eyes widened. “IAN!” She called loudly.

She heard a crash in the kitchen and then heavy footfalls as he ran into the room worry covering his face. He knelt beside her and swallowed hard. “What is it? What’s wrong?”

Mia sent him a look of awe, “The baby’s kicking,” She whispered as she reached for his hand and placed it where hers was a moment before. She knew there was a baby in there, but it was one thing to know they were going to have a family and another to feel their daughter moving inside of her.

Ian felt the movement beneath his hand and a bright grin pulled at his lips as he moved closer. He sat like that for a few minutes before he glanced up and caught sight of the tears in Mia’s eyes. He reached up and cupped her cheek before capturing her lips in a soft kiss. He broke away a minute later and rested his forehead against her. “Thank you.” He said quietly.

Confusion crossed Mia’s face, “For what?”

“For all of this,” Ian motioned around them, “For giving me a purpose, good friends and a family that I love more than anything. We’re going to be parents…You and me.” He said softly.

Mia sent him a warm smile. “You and me,” She said as she cupped his cheek. “I love you.”

Ian nodded before kissing her again. “And I love you too.”
