Memories of Us Chapter (5/13)

Chapter 5
‘The First Kiss’

“The decision to kiss for the first time is the most crucial in any love story. It changes the relationship of two people much more strongly than even the final surrender; because this kiss already has within it that surrender.” –Emil Ludwig-

Lucas walked through the double doors as the bell rang and caught sight of Brooke turning the corner. He ran around the corner to catch up with her.

“Hey, Brooke! I’ve got something for you.”

She turned her head and winked at him.

“I know you do, gorgeous.”

She slowed down so he could catch up. He grabbed something out of his bag and handed it to her. Brooke took the book and glanced at it. The Winter of Our Discontent…Steinbeck’s book. She glanced up at him and he smiled. Brooke lost herself in his smile until he spoke.

“It’s that book I was telling you about. I thought you might want to check it out.”

“Oh, I definitely want to check it out. I suppose I could read the book too. But what are you going to do for me?”

He laughed and then raised an eyebrow.

“What do you mean?”

She holds up the book.

“Well, I read the book. You do something for me.”

“Like what?”

She shrugged.

“I don’t know. Something fun. Deal?”

He grinned at her and nodded.

“Okay. Deal.”

Her smirk widened as she cocked an eyebrow at him.

“Should we shake on it or just make out now?”

Lucas grinned before waving and walking away. Brooke watched him go and then looked back at the book before heading to her next class with a jaunt in her step.

“Who knew reading could be so much fun?”

The next afternoon, after Brooke’s last class she made her way outside to look for Lucas. It took her exactly one day to finish his book. To be honest Brooke wasn’t exactly the biggest reader in the world, but if it was her way to Lucas she’d do it. Besides the book wasn’t all that bad.

She saw him walking out of the school and jogged over. He turned his head when he saw her come over and smiled. She returned it and held out his book.

“All finished. Now it’s my turn.”

He laughed and held up a hand.

“Hey, hey, hey. Not so fast. Did you like it?”

She rolled her eyes.

“Did I like it or did I read it? The book’s about how a guy loses his integrity and gives into temptation. Which is exactly what I see you doing tonight… with me.”

He laughed.

“Right. Well, a deal’s a deal, right?”

Brooke gave him a coy look and nodded.

“That’s right, baby. A deal is a deal.”

They went their separate way and Lucas told Brooke he’d pick her up at 7. After practice Lucas made his way home. He showered, changed, and left to get Brooke. After picking her up, she directed him towards town. They ended up at Bluepost Billiards. Lucas turned to Brooke and raised an eyebrow at her. She just grinned and got out of the car.

Lucas wound up setting up a game of pool while Brooke ran to get drinks. She walked back towards him and held up the beers. He shook his head. He didn’t know how she did it.

“Fake IDs. I used your yearbook photo.”

Lucas shook his head and laughed.

“You’re unbelievable.”

“Thanks!”

She winked at him as she grabbed a pool cue, leaned over and took a shot sinking a ball into the hole. Lucas looked impressed. Huh, there is definitely more to Brooke than I thought. He shifted to give her more room as he spoke.

“I didn’t know you could shoot pool.”

“There’s a lot you don’t know about me.”

He watched her and it suddenly dawned on him that he wanted to know everything he didn’t know. He wanted to know the Brooke that she kept behind closed doors.

“Really? Like what?”

She gave him a sideways glanced before shooting again.

“Like… I love it in the summer when there’s heat lightning at night. And up until the fourth grade, I called squirrels squirrlers.”

Lucas chuckled as another ball went in. She stood up and held the cue straight as she grinned at him.

“And I love beating boys at pool…Oh my God. A smile. Is Lucas Scott actually having fun?”

He rolled his eyes.

“I have fun.”

“Sure you do. Lucas, you’re like the most serious guy I’ve ever met.”

She watched him closely as amusement crossed his face. He turned and lifted up the beer she got him and lifted it to his lips. He chugged about half the beer before putting it down.

“Does that make you happy?”

She shrugged.

“A little.”

“Well, just as long as you don’t feel cheated. You read a book, I drink a beer. We’re even, right?”

Brooke broke out into a fit of giggles and Lucas frowned. He wasn’t sure what she was laughing at until she gave him a small smile and shook her head. He could see mischief is her eyes when she spoke.

“Wait, did you think this was the thing you have to do with me?”

Confusion fell across his face.

“Well, yeah.”

“No. This isn‘t the thing. This is just… drinks before the thing…Bottoms up.”

He looked into her eyes and something shifted. Her enthusiasm was contagious. He held up his glass and they clinked them together. A hour or so later they finished their game of pool and were sitting at the bar drinking.

“Don’t you love weird science?”

Lucas nodded his head eagerly, while setting down his drink.

“ Ah, the family jewels.”

Brooked giggled and then did another impression.

“He doesn’t even have a license, Lisa.”

Lucas chuckled. He could feel the alcohol taking its toll on his body. He felt mellow and free. He glanced at Brooke and she was watching him with affectionate eyes. He cleared his throat.

“What were we saying?”

She shrugged.

“Where we were having fun.”

He nodded.

“Mmm-hmm. I’m glad we did this.”

Brooke was glad too. This was the most fun she’d had in a long time.

“Good. So what’s your take on tattoos?”

“I don’t know…depends.”

“Come here.”

She put down her beer, stood up, and grabbed his hand puling him from his stool. He left his beer and followed her as she led him up some steps to the back room. She leaned against a wall and pulled him closer to her. Lucas can smell her perfume and he has to focus to hear what she’s saying.

One of his hands finds the wall by her head and she grins up at him.

“What do you think…”

She paused and she reached down and started undoing her pants.

“About… this tattoo?”

Lucas glanced down as she moved the waistband out of the way. There was a small tattoo on the inside of her right hip. As he glanced down at it he licked his lips and again had trouble focusing. He wasn’t sure if it was the alcohol, a semi-naked Brooke, or both.

When he looked back up at her he could see her waiting for his response. He smirked.

“Mmm. That tattoo is very, very… sexy.”

She reached up to pull his face down to hers and whispered.

“Right answer.”
Brooke leaned up as Lucas leaned down and their lips met. He wrapped an arm around her body and the heat between them grew. Lucas has kissed girls before, but he couldn’t ever remember it feeling like this. She was beautiful…sexy…interesting…and she was in his arms.

Brooke could feel Lucas devouring her and it made her want to jump up and down. She kissed tons of guys, but those kisses had never meant this much. This moment changed everything. It had finally happened. Brooke had fallen in love…
