Weekend Getaway Chapter (2/5)

Chapter 2

Oliver sat at the table next to Clark trying to figure out what to say to his friend. It wasn’t everyday he got caught at a random Bed and Breakfast with their resident sidekick and Clark’s former Girl Friday. He tapped his fingers lightly against the table as the tension between them thickened.

He glanced around the dining room trying to spot Chloe or Lois before clearing his throat and taking the inevitable plunge.

“So…save any old ladies recently, orphans?”

Clark’s jaw tensed at the tone in Oliver’s voice. He didn’t bother turning to face him as he spoke in a clipped, but deliberate voice.

“Yeah, I stopped a couple of bank robbers.”

Oliver nodded and fought the urge to roll his eyes.

“Good…nice, fun stuff.”

Clark shifted in his seat finally turning his head so his eyes met Oliver’s. He watched as a look of irritation settled on Clark’s face, before he spoke, voice hard.

“How about you? Anything new?”

Oliver pursed his lips and looked forward at the place setting in front of him, a look of concentration on his face. He knew that Clark was referring to Chloe, hell someone who was hard of hearing would most likely know what he was referring to.

It’s not as if he hid his emotions exceptionally well, but since he and Chloe hadn’t exactly defined what was going on with them he wasn’t sure what to tell him. Besides what they did on their spare time wasn’t any of Clark’s business.

Oliver’s face took on a thoughtful expression before turning to one of false excitement as he spoke.

“Umm…oh well there’s a new compound bow I’m trying out. Yeah, it seems pretty good.”

He smiled and the tension in Clark’s shoulders became more pronounced. A new compound bow? Was he kidding? This is exactly why he was angry. Oliver never took anything serious and after everything that’s happened, Chloe didn’t need to have her heart broken by Metropolis’s most eligible bachelor.

“Huh, a compound bow…interesting. That’s what’s new in your life? Because come to think of it I’m pretty sure that the whole you and Chloe thing is something I would have remembered you mentioning had you mentioned it.”

“You sure about that? I mean you have been kinda busy lately. Maybe you missed the memo?”

Oliver couldn’t help it, Clark was being pretty high and mighty for someone who hadn’t really been around Chloe all that much lately and now all of a sudden because they were together he was concerned? Things didn’t work like that.

Clark glared at him, the expression on his face clearly stating he was done with the joking portion of the conversation.

“Oliver this isn’t some kind of a joke. What’s going on with you and Chloe? What are the two of you doing here?”

He sighed. When he asked Chloe to go away with him for the weekend getting the third degree from Clark wasn’t exactly what he had planned. He turned to the taller man, frown on his face.

“It’s complicated and to be quite honest Clark, I’m not really sure how it’s any of your business. What goes on in my life outside of the league and our mission to keep Metropolis and the world safe is private.”

“If it involves Chloe then it’s not private Oliver. She’s my best friend and I think I deserve to know what’s going on. She’s been through a lot and she doesn’t need someone like you using her for…whatever it is you’re using her for.”

Oliver would have laughed at Clark stumbling over his words if he wasn’t so pissed off. Where did he get off saying that he was using Chloe? He had no clue what was going on between them and it irritated him that Clark automatically dubbed him the bad guy.

He was tired of Clark thinking he was better than everyone else. Forget staying peaceful Oliver was done taking crap from him. Maybe it was time he gave him a piece of his mind.

~*~*~*~*~

Chloe bit her lip as Lois plowed on with question after question. She held up a hand to stop her cousin’s babbling as she reacted more calm then she actually was at the moment. Lois could sense fear a mile away and Chloe wasn’t about to set the bloodhound free.

“Calm down Lois. As much as I’d love to answer all your questions at once how about you actually pause between them so I can understand what you’re saying.”

“What are you doing here?”

“Enjoying a relaxing weekend outside the hustle and bustle of city life?”

Lois’ brows furrowed as she watched the shorter woman shifting from foot to foot in front of her. She wasn’t blind she saw Oliver and Chloe in the elevator. They were here…together and there was no way she was letting her off the hook that easy.

“Did you just quote the brochure to me?”

“It’s possible.”

“Chloe!”

She sighed and swallowed hard. She and Oliver hadn’t exactly put a name to what they were so she wasn’t sure what to tell her cousin or even how much to tell her.

“Oliver and I thought we’d get away for a little bit. Nothing to freak out about.”

“You and Oliver…Chlo you do realize what you just said right? Since when are the names Chloe Sullivan and Oliver Queen synonymous?”

She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest at Lois’ dramatics.

“They aren’t. We’ve just been…spending a lot of time together lately that’s all. Listen there’s no need to make this a bigger deal than it is okay?”

She gaped at her cousin. Not a big deal? What was wrong with her? By the looks of it Chloe was sleeping with Oliver and Lois was pretty sure that was more than a big deal, it was a huge deal.

“You’re sleeping with Oliver! That is a big deal.”

Chloe’s eyes widened as she grabbed her cousin’s elbow and steered her to the side of the room glancing behind her and trying to see where Oliver and Clark were to no avail.

“Shh Lois! Keep it down. I’d like it if the whole world didn’t know my business and it’s not a big deal honest. We haven’t even labeled this thing between us so if you could not interrogate Oliver that would be great.”

She pursed her lips together mimicking her cousin’s stance as they stared each other down trying to see which one would falter first. Unfortunately the Sullivan-Lane gene pool was equally stubborn and neither woman was backing down.

Lois opened her mouth, but before she could say anything there was a loud shout from the dining room. They frowned, turning toward the commotion as the shouting continued. Their eyes widened when they realized the shouting voices sounded familiar.

They spoke in unison before jogging towards the dining room.

“Damn it!”

Chloe sighed. Was the weekend over yet?

  6. hehe, I think you actually rated these two parts backward. :) I love it though. Very hot and awkward doesn't begin to cover the discovery and Oliver and Clark's discussion. I'd chose Lois any day. Good on Oliver for holding out that long. Condescending fool. Clark needs someone to straighten him out.
