Chloe bit her lip as she watched the guys mull about headquarters discussing what they were going to order for dinner. After talking with Courtney from the Justice Society of America a couple of months back, she realized the teenager had been right about making headquarters feel homier.

So when she decided to re-organize things Oliver had offered to help. They’d spent two months turning headquarters into a home for the team and that’s when it happened. One night after a few drinks they’d wound up back at the Watchtower and the line of friendship had been crossed.

That was a little over four months ago. They’d been seeing each other on a strictly no strings or complications basis since then. They'd decided to keep things quite for obvious reasons, but with what Emil told her last week; Chloe wasn’t sure how much longer that would last.

“Chloe!”

Startled she looked up Oliver watching her, worry on his face. He had called her name three times and she hadn’t even blinked. He didn’t know what she was doing on that computer of hers, but it couldn’t possibly be that absorbing.

He had waited for about a week for her to tell him what was going on, but she still hadn’t and it was putting him on edge. He’d almost gone as far as to make Emil give him Chloe’s medical records just to set his mind at ease.

But, he’d refrained. Besides Emil most likely wouldn’t have given them to him anyway. Chloe could see the crease in his brows and she knew he could sense she was on edge.

He’d been attempting to give her space all week, but she liked to think she knew Oliver pretty well and he only had so much patients. Chloe sighed, she needed to tell him.

He glanced behind him at the team making sure they were busy doing their own thing before walking over so he was standing next to her, voice soft.

“You okay Chlo?”

Her stomach flip flopped and she could feel her heart beating hard against her chest. There was never a right time to tell someone this, especially someone who you were in a benefitting only arrangement with.

It wasn’t fair for him not to know though and she was afraid if she didn’t tell him now, she might chicken out. He had such an earnest look on his face and so she took a deep breath and blurted it out.

“I’m pregnant.”

His facial expression morphed into shock as he opened his mouth and closed it. Chloe saw his body sway and reached out an arm but she was too late. His body hit the floor with a loud thud that had everyone turning towards her.

They glanced between Chloe and an unconscious Oliver eyebrows raised. She let out a nervous chuckle and shrugged. Heart practically breaking her rib cage as she mumbled softly to herself.

“Well that’s not a promising reaction.”

“What’s up with the boss man Chloelicious?”

She looked back at the guys and motioned to Oliver.

“I’m…not sure. Can you guys help me get him to the couch?”

Bart and Victor came over, lifted Oliver off the floor and half carried; half dragged him to the couch. She walked over to the kitchen grabbing an ice pack from the freezer and by the time she made it back to the couch he was already groaning, hand on his head.

He opened his eyes and glared at her as he took the ice pack from her hands. There were a thousand and one thoughts going through Oliver’s head right now, but pregnant had been the last thing he expected her to say.

He cleared his throat as he glanced around at Bart, Victor and A.C. curiosity covering their faces. He leaned back, closing his eyes again as he spoke.

“Listen guys, I’m not feeling great. I guess that conk to the head earlier took more out of me then I thought. Any chance we can do the post meeting dinner fest tomorrow?”

Bart shrugged and Victor nodded frown on his face.

“Sure man. I’ll give Clark and Jon a call on our way out let them know we’re switching plans for tomorrow.”

Oliver gave Victor a tight smile as they got their stuff together. Bart sped back and forth before stopping in front of Chloe, lifting her hand and kissing it. He Waggled his eyebrows and spoke.

“We’ll probably go to the dinner and grab some grub. Wanna come with mamacita?”

She gave him a warm smile and shook her head.

“I’ll pass. I have some work to finish up and Mr. bump on the head probably shouldn’t fend for himself. Thanks though. I’ll see you tomorrow?”

“Sure thing hot stuff.”

He winked before speeding out the door leaving Victor and A.C. trailing behind him. Chloe waved and waited for them to be gone before closing the door quietly. She stood facing away from him for a minute so she could gather whatever courage she had left.

She took a deep breath, turned and walked back over to him. Oliver sat on the couch in the empty Headquarters looking slightly lost. She sat across from him and waited for him to speak. He shook his head, met her eyes, voice soft.

“Pregnant?”

She nodded, fingers fidgeting on her lap. He could tell she was nervous and he felt bad for his initial reaction, but it could have been worse. Instead of fainting, which knocked down any macho points he’d earned in the earlier fight, he could have yelled.

So all in all his reaction wasn’t really that bad. He just wasn’t exactly sure how this had happened. They’d been careful, well expect for the first time, but it obviously isn’t from then or they would have known a lot sooner. He rubbed a hand over his face.

“You’re sure?”

“Emil told me last week. I was waiting for the right time to tell you.”

“And you thought that was here, with the rest of the team fifteen feet away from us?”

Chloe sighed in frustration as she stood and started pacing in front of him as she spoke heatedly with her hands.

“I panicked. I’ve been trying to tell you all week.”

He tuned out her out as he watched her arms fly in every direction, face flush with anger, nervousness and an unnatural glow illuminating her features. His mouth turned up at the corner as he took her in. Chloe Sullivan was pregnant with his baby.

He was going to be a father. Warmth filled his chest at the thought. It exhilarated and scared him all at once. At the back of his head he couldn’t help feel like the reason Chloe hadn’t told him about the baby right away was because she didn’t want it.

Pain struck him at just the thought of her not wanting their baby. He swallowed hard as he came to a decision. They needed to go see Emil, get things squared away. He cleared his throat and Chloe stopped moving around and looked at him.

“We need to take care of this…”

Chloe felt the wind being knocked out of her at his words. She tuned out his voice, heart clenching, pain filling her. Tears pooling in her eyes. She should have known he wouldn’t want this that it’d be too much for him. Her body felt heavy and she plopped down in the chair across from the couch, breathing slightly heavy.

He glanced at her eyebrow raised until he saw the tears I her eyes. He wasn’t sure what he did to upset her, but whatever it was had been unintentional. He reached out caressing her arm lightly. Oliver’s worried voice cut through her thoughts.

“Chloe…what’s wrong?”

She moved her arm away from his hands and glared up at him, jaw set as spoke in a hard voice.

“If you don’t want to be involved fine, but I’m not getting an abortion Oliver.”

His heart jerked in his chest. What in the world made her think that? Confusion filled him as he stared at her eyes wide.

“Who said anything about abortion?”

She pointed to her stomach a bitter laugh leaving her lips.

“Take care of this?”

He let out a long breath as he moved closer to her and nodded trying to reassure her as best as he could.

“Yeah Chloe take care of this…you…everything. You need things, prenatal vitamins, an exam...I didn’t mean...I would never…this wasn’t planned, but, I’m here.”

She closed her eyes for a second one tear escaping its confines as Oliver wrapped his arms around her relief evident as she relaxed her body against his. She moved her arms so they wound around him and for the first time in a week she breathed easy. He wasn’t mad.

Surprised like she was, probably freaked out, but willing to stick it out and she was grateful for that because Chloe a feeling she was going to need to be reassured more than once that they were making the right decision.

Chloe hadn’t even realized she’d made one until she thought Oliver didn’t want the baby, but apparently she had and so had he. They were doing this, the whole parent thing…His hands rubbing her back soothed her as he spoke against her ear.

“We’ll figure this out together Chloe...Trust me.”

She nodded as relief filled her. Because the truth was she did trust him…

  2. I almost snorted coffee all over the computer when Oliver fainted! *cackles* Funniest pregnancy reaction I've seen from him in a fic and it worked so well! Poor Chloe when she thought he wanted her to get rid of it - very glad they're in it together right form the start and I can't wait to see where they go from her. The gang finding out could be quite a trip! ;)

  3. I'm glad I wasn't having breakfast while reading this like I normally do. Or my husband would have discovered my morning routine along with wheat flakes all over his laptop screen.

I loved it. "Mr. Bump on the head..." My kids watch the Mr. Men Show at I got a perfect cockney accent saying that line in my head. And I smiled even cheesier!

He recovered in both instances very well. The fainting and the phrasing blunder. Men are notorious for saying the wrong things. My husband told my girlfriend last night, "Oh, that's right you're pregnant." She said, "Seriously, you're only just noticing. Where is this coming from." Him being the obliging freight train talker he is, rattled off. "Well I saw the panda (the kids were watching Kung Fu Panda) and I thought..." We all looked at him. I couldn't believe he said that. Later he told me it was her fault for asking him to explain. He said she's was wearing black and white, her tummy was really big and she was eating, just like Po was eating noodles on the TV. It just clicked together. :P Crazy man.

  5. Heh. I thought men were supposed to faint while watching their wives/partner give birth :)

Totally rocking chapter. Love his reaction, though I had to wince with his whole 'take care of it' line. Can't blame Chloe for her reaction.

And now, like the others, we will be eagerly awaiting the next chapter!
