Chloe sat in the corner of the darkened room in the uncomfortable plastic chair. Her tears had long since dried. She wasn’t even sure what she’d been crying about this time. It had been close to two weeks since they found Oliver’s bruised and bloody body, alive but they’d cut it close.
If J’onn hadn’t gotten there when he did, well let’s just say she’d be raising their child alone. She leaned back in the chair slightly closing her eyes for a moment, basking in the quite of solitude that she didn’t often get lately.
After the team helped settle things down in the countries that were attacked they came back only to find Clark had not made it to the other world, though he was able to get Zod and the Kandorians there before any more damage could be done.
She’d been so happy when she found out he was still here, at least until she saw him. He was barely breathing when they brought him to Emil. She felt the vibration of her cell phone in her pocket and she sighed. It never stopped.
There were so many things to get through in one day…Chloe wasn’t sure she could do it for much longer. She fished the phone out of her pocket, pushing the button and holding it to her ear. Her voice was soft and tired.
“Hello.”
“Hey Chloe.”
“Hey Dinah, what’s up?”
There was a clatter in the background and Chloe winced.
“Ugh…I’m having a little trouble with the Watchtower satellite. It looks like something from Queen Industries or Luthor Corp whatever it is now, is blocking reception or maybe shut it down? I’m not actually sure.”
Chloe sighed and sat up straight.
“No big deal. Log in to the back-up satellite and when I get back to the office I’ll look into it.”
“Thanks…so have you had lunch yet?”
Chloe rolled her eyes.
“You realize I’m not a child and I don’t need people watching my diet right?”
“And you know we only ask before we love you and if anything happens to you we’d all be lost seven ways from Sunday right?”
A small smile slipped onto Chloe’s face as she shook her head. She and Dinah had gotten closer lately. When they first found Oliver, Dinah had been just as worried as Chloe. It wasn’t until they were at the hospital and she broached the topic of feelings that Chloe told her she already knew.
Dinah seemed surprised that Oliver had told her, but she explained to the taller blonde that she and Oliver had long since passed the stage of secrets. She had apologized to Dinah though, telling her she never meant to get between them.
To which Dinah had laughed it off making some comment about how if it had been anyone else they’d have gotten a smack down. Chloe turned her attention back to the phone. Her voice, though still tinged with sadness seemed lighter to Dinah the next time she spoke.
“So you all tell me. I’ll make sure on my way out of here that I grab lunch. Okay?”
“Deal. Are you coming by Watchtower today? We were thinking of maybe getting dinner tonight. Victor and A.C. are back from their mission…we thought it might be nice.”
Chloe hesitated.
“Sure. I’ll do my best to get away early.”
Dinah sighed. That meant she’d probably find some kind of excuse to get out of it so she could spend another night at the hospital.
“Okay well hopefully I’ll see you later.”
“Bye Dinah.”
“Bye.”
Chloe disconnected the call and put her phone away. She appreciated the effort everyone was going through to make sure she wasn’t alone and that she was taken care of herself, but sometimes it was all too overwhelming.
Everything that had happened since the day she almost lost Oliver had been overwhelming. She just wanted things to go back to normal. A choking cough startled her out of her thoughts. She stood immediately and moved over to the bed.
Confused eyes met hers and Chloe smiled briefly.
“Hey…you’re awake.”
She moved over to the small tray and poured a cup of water before helping the person in front of her take a small sip. She winced, placing her head gently back on the pillow as she met the green eyes in front of her.
“What…happened?”
“You don’t remember?”
She scrunched her brows trying to focus on a coherent thought when everything came flooding back making her eyes go wide and heartbeat speed up. Her voice was strained and quivered slightly when she spoke.
“Zod.”
Chloe nodded and sat slowly in a seat next to the bed. She swallowed hard before glancing at the woman in front of her.
“I’ve been wondering if you were going to wake up. Emil said he wasn’t sure you’d make it. I said you were too much of a stubborn bitch not too.”
Her lip turned up at the corner as she raised an eyebrow at Chloe.
“What are you…doing here?”
Chloe’s face softened as she spoke in a low voice.
“Tess…you saved my life. I don’t know why, but thank you. We’ve all done some pretty horrible things these past couple of years…but everyone deserves a second chance. I’ll never forget what you did for me…for us.”
She placed a hand on her slightly rounded stomach, tears pooling in her eyes.
“You saved my family and for that I’ll always be grateful.”
Tess nodded and looked away trying to fight back the emotion. She remembered what had happened. She had accidentally given too much away and after what he did to Oliver, Zod was looking for a new way to hurt Clark.
She’d gone to the ice castle thinking he’d be there and when he wasn’t she knew exactly where he’d gone. She got to Watchtower literally just in the nick of time.
The only thing she kept thinking as Zod stared at Chloe spewing something about betrayal and weapons was if anything happened to her or her baby, Oliver would never get over it. He’d blame himself for the rest of his life.
And if he found out Zod had gotten his information from Tess, even if it wasn’t intentional he’d never forgive her and she couldn’t let that happen. So she’d run into the room, pushed Chloe aside and the last thing she remembered was the searing pain against her flesh.
She closed her eyes and a tear escaped. When she turned back toward Chloe the blonde was sitting there patiently. Tess cleared her throat.
“It’s not a big deal, so let us not dwell on it okay? I gather since we’re all still here the Kandorians didn’t get to the whole world domination part of the evening. How long have I been here?”
Chloe shook her head.
“No, they didn’t. Clark used the book of Rao, sent them packing, including Zod. You’ve been out of it for a while. About two weeks. You’ve woken up on and off but this is the most coherent you’ve been.”
Tess frowned and lifted her arm gently. She was surprised that she wasn’t in too much pain. Chloe must have seen the look on her face because she gave her half a smile.
“It’s amazing what a lot of money can do. Skin grafts. There are still a couple of more surgeries to go through if you want them. But the bulk of them were done while you were floating in and out of consciousness. I figured it would be better than having you wake up in agonizing pain.”
Tess nodded and the next time she spoke her voice was a mixture of humor and sarcasm.
“Thanks. So…what you just sit here and spy while I’m sleeping? Doesn’t your boyfriend mind you being so close to me? Or has he finally put me in the ‘not a threat column’?”
The smile left Chloe’s face as she swallowed hard.
“He’s not as angry as one might think.”
Tess heard the shift in her voice as she took in the pensive expression on Chloe’s face. She tilted her head slightly and spoke.
“What aren’t you telling me?”
“Don’t get me wrong, I did come in here to check on you, but you’re not my reason for being at the hospital.”
Tess’s breath hitched slightly and she tried to ignore it. Tried to ignore the way her mind panicked at the thought that he might be here…hurt. She focused and tampered down her emotions as she spoke, hesitation in her voice.
“Oliver?”
Chloe nodded.
“And Clark.”
Confusion crossed Tess’s face again.
“Clark, but I don’t understand…how?”
Chloe sighed.
“Zod stabbed him with blue meteor rock…it strips kryptonians of their powers. My people found him, but by the time we got the blue K out…there was a lot of damage. So for now he’s here until we figure out a way to get his powers back.”
“He doesn’t know how to get them back?”
Chloe shrugged.
“He isn’t awake to ask. Clark’s been in a coma since he was stabilized.”
“And Oliver?”
“Bruised and battered, but doing okay. Emil has had him in a medically induced coma for a bit while the worst of things healed, but he’s been awake for the last four days or so. Still kinda cloudy in the details, but Emil said he’s taking him off the meds that do that today. So he should be back to his normal self in no time…thank god.”
Tess nodded and finally took the time to look at the woman before her. She was dressed in a business suit, hair immaculately done, make-up perfect and yet as well put together as she looked, Tess could see how hard the last two weeks had weighed on her.
The bags under her eyes that were slightly red rimmed. Her body was tense and yet there she stood making sure everyone was okay, while Tess was sure Chloe was living in her own personal hell. Chloe raised an eyebrow at the red head in question.
“What?”
“You’re looking spiffy.”
Chloe chuckled as the hospital room door opened and Emil walked in clip board in hand. She stood and glanced over her shoulder briefly before turning back to Tess.
“A yes…did I forget to mention while you and Oliver are relegated to hospital beds someone needed to be acting CEO of Luthor Corp.”
Tess’s eyes widened.
“He named you acting CEO?”
Chloe shrugged.
“Hey, trust me you weren’t the only one surprised. I mean sure I ran the Isis Foundation for a while but Luthor Corp? Not really my bag of tea. You’re people are annoying and needy and if one of you doesn’t come back soon I might have to shove your assistants in a closet. Do you do anything for yourself? Because neither of them will leave me the hell alone.”
Tess smirked.
“They can be a little…overzealous, but they come in handy when you’re juggling multiple things at once.”
Chloe rolled her eyes and Emil cleared his throat.
“I need to give Miss Mercer a once over and a certain billionaire is asking for his and I quote ‘baby mama’ It’s possible I might have to change my diagnosis on the concussion after all.”
Chloe smiled.
“And on that note I guess I’ll go find my ‘baby daddy’”
Humor danced in her eyes as Emil shook his head and waved her off. She nodded toward Tess as she addressed Emil.
“Keep me informed.”
“Will do.”
She left the room and made her way down the hall. If Oliver was back to joking he must be feeling a lot better than he had the pervious time shed seen him, which meant she could finally try to get what happened out of him. She pushed open the door to his room and grinned.
He was sitting up eating pudding. He caught sight of her and grinned, amusement clear on his face.
“Well, Miss Sullivan you finally decided to grace me with your presence. How kind of you.”
“Emil didn’t tell me you were awake.”
He made a face.
“Mmm or maybe you like spending more time with Clark then me.”
She rolled her eyes as he scooted over slightly and she sat on the bed next to him. He leaned in, captured her lips in a soft kiss and sighed. He cupped her cheek, thumb brushing over her lips as he spoke, voice soft.
“So that’s what your lips feel like. For a while there I forgot…so how’s Clark?”
She scrunched up her nose.
“Did Emil tell you everything without me?”
He shook his head.
“Not everything, but I asked. Apparently you miss have been spending way too much time here. And you know the worst part about that?”
Her eyes sparkled.
“Hmm?”
“You haven’t even been spending all that time with me.”
She chuckled and he smiled.
“Well I’ve been very busy. Someone didn’t tell me he named me Luthor Corp’s interim CEO should god forbid anything happen to him. Oliver…how could you not tell me?”
He had the decency to look sheepish.
“Remember the last time we were here and I had you call my lawyer?”
She nodded as he took her hand in hers.
“Well I realized that you and I, with the life we have…well either of us can be gone in an instant. I know you don’t like to think about it and neither do I, but after Zod…I realized how immortal I’m not. So I set things up so that if anything were to ever happen to me you and Oliver Jr. will be more than taken care of.”
The startled look on her face made him want to kiss her again. She opened and closed her mouth twice before anything finally came out.
“Ollie…you didn’t need to do that and I told you we’re not naming the baby Oliver Jr. One Oliver is enough.”
He laughed and winced slightly. She frowned and rubbed his arm as he spoke.
“Chloe, yes I did. I need to know that no matter what you two will be okay. So like I said weeks ago. We’re a team…partners. Now we’re just partners in every aspect. If anything happens to me, you’ll be the sole heir to everything I have. You and baby Queen get everything. …including part ownership of Luthor Corp and all of Queen Industries.”
Her mouth was wide open as she stared at him in shock.
“Are you nuts Oliver? You can’t give me that kind of…power…money whatever. No I don’t accept.”
He tried to hide his smile.
“Chloe it’s been done since that last hospital visit. You don’t really have a choice besides you’re the only person I’d trust to make sure nothing bad came out of our…investments. Anyway this is a conversation for another time I actually wanted to talk to you about something else.”
She sighed glaring at him.
“You mean there’s more you have to tell me? Let me guess you signed your soul over to me too.”
“Someone’s touché and no, my soul is still mostly if not fully intact as far as I know.”
“Good to hear. Did you tell Emil what happened?”
“As much as I could remember, which wasn’t much. Can you stop interrupting me I have something I want to say?”
She grumbled but nodded. He tilted her head up so she could meet his eyes. His face softened, lips turning up in a smile.
“I meant what I said Chloe…”
Her heartbeat picked up speed at the look in his eyes. She breathed in deep and swallowed hard as she placed a hand over the one that was now cupping her cheek. Her voice was barely a whisper when she spoke.
“So did I…”
His grin was blinding as he leaned into her, their lips molding together. When he finally pulled back, Oliver mated their foreheads together.
“I love you.”
“I love you too Ollie.”
As they sat there in his hospital bed she knew things were going to be okay. Their troubles were far from over, but the Kandorians were gone, the team was still around, Tess might actually have a few redeeming qualities and Oliver was on the mend.
All in all Chloe had to say thing’s were definitely looking up. Who knew unexpected trouble could lead to so much happiness? When she started this thing with Oliver she never expected it to last, to become more than just a fling.
Instead she had found the unexpected in Oliver Queen. She found companionship, a partner, an equal, love, and she wasn’t planning on giving any of those things up anytime soon. Chloe guessed sometimes you just needed to expect the unexpected and hope beyond hope that everything turned out okay.

Beautiful, sweet and touching. I like the twist you put on the lead up and follow on to Salvation. It would have definitely made it a lot more Chlollie centric. Not that I did love what they did give us :D
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to see Tess' motivations too. I wonder why Chloe didn't set him straight about where she'd been spending most of her time? Maybe she knew that Tess was partly to blame but she understood her choices and wanted to thank her for choosing to protect them in the end. Or protect Oliver's heart anyway :D
The 'baby mama' line. I can so picture Ollie saying that. And so true. The world can only handle one Oliver. :D
Aw, thanks so much. I'm really glad you enjoyed this. Haha
DeleteYeah, that's exactly what it was. :)
Hahah Justin would deliver that line so perfectly haha :) Thanks for reading.
lol. I love the light hearted possessiveness of the 'baby mama' line. :D
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Lucy!
DeleteI adore this and I love the way you wove Tess into the story. Also love that Oliver made sure that Chloe and the baby would be taken care of. That's a lot Chloe's dealing with and I like where this is going :)
ReplyDeleteAw thanks so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed this. Family first is what Oliver is all about. :)
DeleteOkay, I get it sticking through those sticky lines of canon. Lol! I guess I'm just blinded by Chlollie. I never shipped Chloe with anyone, ever, until Oliver and that wow. I know that I went through bouts of anger issues with what the SV crew was doing, but I had hope! I have to say I just got into other ships fanfiction. I've been an avid Spuffy reader since 2006 maybe 2005. So I just found this very much recently.

LoL Chlollie are the best! Thanks for reading. :)
DeleteLoved it! At first I had thought she had been sitting with Oliver not Tess. I liked that Tess saved Chloe and the baby. And Chloe and Oliver said and confirmed their "I love you's"!!!!
ReplyDeleteHaha I tricked you! Hee I'm glad you enjoyed this. Thanks for reading! :)
DeleteSo much happening, but Chlollie take it all in stride as a team.
