Chloe glanced around the ballroom, eyes taking everyone in. She grinned, lifting the bottom of her dress and making her way down the stairs and into the main portion of the room. She had to hand it to Bruce; a Masquerade Ball for Charity was a great way to make a usually stuffy event fun and attractive.

The room was filled with multicolored costumes and she was in awe of the decorations that glittered majestically around her. Oliver had spent the last week in Gotham finalizing a business partnership with Queen Industries and Wayne Enterprise.

And after listening to him rattle off about how important this event was for the past four days she had finally put him out of his misery and agreed to let him fly her to Gotham for the ball. When Chloe stepped off the last step and smoothed the deep purple satin of her dress around her, she took a deep breath.

The lights were low as a soft string of music stretched through the room, filling the atmosphere with a pulsing energy that made it both vibrant and seductive. Everywhere she looked faces were obscured with different color masks.

Some more expensive looking then others. Her own mask was gold, embroidered with some kind of Victorian design. She’d found it along with a dress and accessories upon arrival on Oliver’s private jet. He left a note saying he’d meet her at the ball at dusk.

At the time she’d rolled her eyes at the note, but as Chloe stood there clad in what she was sure was one of the more expensive gowns, her stomach fluttered. She felt like a princess. For a minute she could forget everything else that went on in their lives and just enjoy the moment.

She reached up and shifted her mask lightly as she scanned the room for her prince. Maybe Oliver wasn’t there yet. She was just about to give up her search when she caught sight of a tall dark figure standing by the table in the middle of the room that held some delectable looking desserts.

The suit he wore was immaculate, complete with a cape and hood that was pulled over his head. Her mystery man was wearing a gold version of the phantom of the opera mask and she grinned. Oliver.

He raised his champagne glass in her direction and she grinned before lifting the hem of her dress again and making her way across the dance floor. When she finally made it over to him she placed a hand on his arm, leaning close as she spoke.

“Jeez, could you have waited farther away? God Ollie it’s so beautiful. Look at all the amazing dresses and the decorations…wow. Bruce must have had his people go all out.”

“Hmm.”

She turned away from the room and sent a warm smile his way as she wound her arms around his neck. He hesitated for a brief second before pulling her flush against him. She raised an eyebrow and he could see mischief settle in her green eyes.

“Mmm Mr. Queen I take it you and your libido missed me.”

He said nothing and she bit her lip as she pressed herself closer to him, her cleavage expanding over the strapless dress slightly, her voice a whisper in the sounds surrounding them.

“It’s possible I missed you too.”

She leaned up and when he saw her glistening lips he cupped her cheek and pulled her to him. Their lips met with force and he groaned into her mouth as he deepened the kiss. Not even five seconds later her body tensed and she put a hand to his chest pushing him back.

His lips were tingling and he licked them as he looked down on her guarded eyes, frown marring her beautiful face. Her voice was hard and low and she jabbed a finger into his chest.

“You are not Oliver.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Oliver was leaning against the bar when he caught sight of her. He swallowed hard as he took in the cascade of silk that covered her curves. Green had always been his color, but when he saw this he knew it would look amazing on her and he hadn’t been wrong.

The gold offset the purple perfectly. She was like a beacon of light in the dark of the room. He watched heads turn as she glided by and he smirked. That’s right; his date was the hottest female in the room by far.

He downed the last of his drink and took a step forward before stopping in his tracks frown on his face. She was weaving in and out of the crowd gracefully, head held high as she made her way to the table in the middle of the room.

What in the world was she doing? That was when he saw it. There was someone standing at the table dressed exactly like him except their hood was up and his was not. Oliver’s jaw clenched as he pushed himself forward anger bubbling inside of him.

His eyes didn’t leave the couple as he moved through the crowd and when he saw her lean up, the man cupping her face and pulling her into a kiss he saw red. Before he even reached them Chloe held up a hand and pushed the stranger away.

He could see the restrained furry on her face as she jammed the man in the chest. He came up right behind her as she spoke matter of factly.

“You are not Oliver.”

“Damn right he’s not,” Oliver practically growled.

Chloe whirled around and swallowed hard.

“Ollie…I didn’t know he--”

“It’s fine, I saw.”

Oliver glared at the man in front of him and he just smirked, amusement coloring his voice as he spoke.

“Well, now isn’t that strange. We somehow managed to procure the same costume. And here I thought I was being original.”

Oliver’s eye twitched as he took a step towards his double ganger.

“Bruce?”

The smirk on his face widened as he glanced at Chloe.

“You never told me your girlfriend was such a beauty Oliver. I would have suggested you bring her to town sooner. She tastes absolutely sinful.”

Chloe gripped Oliver’s arm as he made a move toward Bruce fists clenched.

“Oliver…don’t. We’re in a room full of people and you know he’s just baiting you. Come on Ollie…be the better man.”

Bruce watched her talk him down before she sent a glare his way.

“Mr. Wayne…I’d say it was nice to meet you but…”

He chuckled.

“No hard feelings. I apologize; I had every intention of telling you I wasn’t Oliver and then…well I got slightly distracted.”

Oliver sneered at him.

“I bet.”

Bruce sighed.

“Well I suppose I should go, again it was nice meeting you Chloe. Maybe next time we shouldn’t skip the pleasantries.”

He grinned before taking his champagne glass and disappearing into the crowd. Oliver grumbled as Chloe rubbed his arms.

“Hey, forget about him.”

Oliver took a deep breath and looked back at Chloe. His lip curled up into a smirk and she raised an eyebrow.

"What’s so funny?”

He wrapped his arms around her and placed a soft kiss on her neck.

“You knew he wasn’t me. How?”

She rolled her eyes but let him continue placing teasing kisses across her neck.

“Because Ollie, not that you need your horn tooted…but nobody kisses me like you do.”

He lifted his head, their eyes meeting.

“Is that so?”

“MmmHmm.”

“Not even Batman?”

Chloe snorted.

“Please Romeo. This girl is a one woman hero and Batman’s got nothing on the Green Arrow.”

He leaned in and right before pressing his lips against her he whispered, warm breath making her lips part.

“Right answer Sidekick.”

I love that line and that she knew he wasn't Oliver. I'm betting that Bruce knew she would tell the difference but couldn't help himself anyway.

I'm supposed to be writing jealousy but I don't think I'm going to manage to top this or even match it. I love it. :D
