Chapter 4
Chloe stood in front of the bathroom mirror in her nightgown gently rubbing moisturizer on her face. She brushed her teeth, shut the water, and pulled her green silk robe from the door. She watched the fabric settle over her shoulders and as Chloe ran her hands over it, she swallowed hard.
Oliver had gotten this pajama set for her on their one year anniversary. He said it brought out the color of her eyes. She let out a heavy sigh as she moved out of the master bedroom and walked quietly down the hall to the kitchen.
Mia was still asleep. They’d wound up spending the day out, getting take-out and having a movie marathon with Lois and Clark until early that morning. Clark and Lois left at around one and she and Mia passed out around two.
Chloe put on a pot of coffee and glanced around the kitchen as she waited for it to brew. The tower seemed empty without Oliver. She missed him. They didn’t normally spend all their time together. Before their little weekend in Vegas they hadn’t even lived together, though she supposed they might as well have.
Spending a few days without him was normal, but this time…it felt different. It didn’t just feel like they were in separate states. If felt like they were further apart then they had been in a long time and not just physically.
The coffee beeped and as she was pulling a mug from the cabinet she heard the chime of the elevator. Chloe stopped what she was doing and frowned. Who in the world was at the tower this early? She moved out of the kitchen, the elevator door slipping open, Oliver walking out.
He rubbed the back of his neck, moved a few feet into the room, looked up and froze. He caught sight of her silk clad body and he let out a heavy breath. He’d got on a plane yesterday intent on coming to Metropolis and apologizing to her.
And then on his way to the tower he saw the morning issue of the Daily Planet. Shot’s of Chloe and Mia littered the front page along with one or two that had the back of a dark haired man in them. He was pretty sure it was Clark, but that wasn’t the point.
She’d told him she couldn’t come back to Star City because she was busy with work. Because there was too much to do and yet there she was on the front page of the paper looking like work was the last thing on her mind. Chloe had said she would give this marriage a chance, but it looked like those were just words.
She tilted her head to the side and gave him a small smile as she took a couple of steps to close the distance between them. He stopped her, hand outstretched with a rolled up newspaper in it. He Held it out for her and she frowned as she took it.
When Chloe unfolded the paper she swallowed hard. “Queen Girls Gone Wild” She glanced up and was about to explain when she saw the anger on his face. He didn’t give her a chance to say anything before he spoke.
“Is this why you couldn’t come back to Star City?”
She shook her head.
“Ollie--”
“Don’t, don’t Ollie me Chloe. Damn it! I’ve been doing everything I can to make this easier for you and for Mia. I’ve bent over backwards calling in any and all favors I can to keep the two of you out of the press or to cushion the stories that have been printed and this is what I get?”
Chloe had spent three years will Oliver and sure they fought who didn’t? But she’d never seen him this angry before, at least not with her.
“Oliver it isn’t what you think.”
He let out a brief chuckle and his voice was probably louder than he intended it to be.
“You know I actually canceled my afternoon meetings yesterday to fly out here and apologize to you for that ridiculous story they put up on the web yesterday and this is what I come back to.”
She didn’t know what to say, he was yelling and she could see the hurt in his eyes as he tried to stay still as he spoke to her.
“Are you even going to let me explain?”
“What’s there to explain? It’s obvious when you said you’d give this marriage a chance you were just telling me what I wanted to hear.”
Mia groaned and rolled over in her bed as the sound of voices startled her out of her sleep. She blinked a few times, sat up, and frowned. She got out of bed, pushed open her door and as she walked down the hall, the yelling became clearer.
“That isn’t true! God why are you being like this?”
Mia stopped by the entrance to the living room and wrapped her arms around herself as she watched Chloe and Oliver fight, her mind flashing back to when she was a kid and her parents used to argue before they gave her up.
“Why am I being like this? I haven’t complained once since we made our way back to Star City. I’ve tried to be understanding, and I’ve stuck up for you…for us with everyone who dared say anything about it and you want to know what my problem is?”
He motioned around the apartment.
“We got married and even though you knew it wasn’t received well and there was a ton a bad press surrounding it you still took off with Mia to Metropolis. How did you think reporters were going to handle that? If you would have just stayed and laid low, showed the press that there was nothing to see, they would have left us alone already.”
Chloe glared at him as she pointed in his direction.
“Oh and you’re perfect right? Because there weren’t any articles flying around about you? Oh and you always take good looking red heads out to lunch. I’m sure getting married and then cozying up to someone who isn’t your wife is great for publicity.”
“Well maybe if my wife was actually around she’s the one I would have been taking out to lunch, but oh that’s right she got scared and ran away because that’s what she does!”
They glared at each other and Mia’s eyes watered as she watched them fight. They’d argued before…disagreed, but it had never been this bad before. Something about this time felt different and that scared her.
Oliver shook his head, jaw clenching as he lowered his voice and spoke.
“Listen…you made it clear that this isn’t what you want. You said it in the beginning, but I thought I could convince you…that I could believe in us enough for the both of us. I guess I was wrong. You want a divorce Chloe…you’ve got it.”
She watched him turn and something inside her broke. Yes she was scared, but when she told him she’d give their marriage a try she’d meant it. She loved Oliver and the last thing she wanted was for him to walk out the door.
Mia gripped her arms tighter as a tear slid down her cheek. She opened her mouth, but before she could say anything Chloe spoke, voice loud with almost a note of pleading in it.
“Ollie stop…please…please don’t leave. Just wait.”
He paused and she walked over gripping his arm and moving so she was standing in front of him. He looked down at the tears in her eyes and he swallowed hard. He hated seeing that look on her face. He hated it even more when he was the one to put it there.
“You’re right okay…the newspaper thing this morning was wrong, but I’d been working nonstop since we got back and I needed a break. So Mia and I went out and Clark met up with us and we just got our minds off of stuff and then came back here and watched movies. That’s it.”
He opened his mouth and she shook her head.
“Don’t, just let me finish. I was scared, I still am, but I want this to work Oliver. I wasn’t lying when I said that. I love you. We need to make some changes I get it. I’m sorry I took off. Just please don’t go Ollie…not like this.”
“Chlo--”
They were interrupted by Mia’s distraught voice.
“She’s right you can’t leave.”
They turned, startled at the sound of her voice. Oliver glanced at her red-rimmed eyes, arms hugging herself, and the tension in his body fell.
“You can’t leave because you promised we were a family.”
Oliver nodded.
“I did.”
Chloe wiped a tear away from her eye as she took a step towards Mia clearing her throat before she spoke.
“I didn’t know you were up.”
“You guys were yelling.”
They exchanged glances and Mia shook her head.
“You guys are the only family I have…I’m sorry we left. We didn’t do it to upset you. We needed time, but I don’t want any more time now.”
Chloe bit her lip and Oliver nodded as he glanced between the two women in front of him before speaking.
“Okay…I think what we all need…is sleep.”
Mia furrowed her brows as did Chloe. Oliver chuckled lightly.
“I don’t know about the two of you but I spent the night on a plane…long story don’t ask. We’re gonna have to sit down all of us and come to some decisions, but before we do I think we need to sleep on it.”
“But…it’s morning.”
Oliver shrugged.
“So?”
Mia grinned and nodded.
“I could sleep.”
The tightness in Chloe’s chest subsided as she smiled.
“Yeah…a little sleep never hurt anyone.”
“Good. Well let’s go ladies…bed.”
Mia was the first to walk back down the hall. Oliver took a few steps forward before holding out his hand for Chloe. She took a deep breath and took it, his fingers curling tightly around hers as she pressed her body to his side.
He glanced down at the woman practically attached to his side and let out a content sigh. Maybe coming back to metropolis hadn’t been a mistake after all.
______
Oliver shifted in the bed pulling the warm body closer as his eyes opened slowly. He blinked a few times trying to figure out what had woke him up. And that’s when he smelt it. Smoke. He sat up alert jostling Chloe awake in the process.
She groaned as he got off the bed practically yanking her up with him. She let out a startled shout.
“Oliver!”
“I smell smoke.”
She sniffed the air and her eyes widened as they moved out of the bedroom. Oliver ran down the hall towards the kitchen as Chloe pushed open Mia’s door, but the teenager was nowhere to be found. There was a note of panic in her voice as she called out to Oliver.
“Ollie, Mia’s not in her room!”
Oliver stopped short and raised an eyebrow at the coughing brunette in the kitchen. Mia put the smoking frying pan in the sink and turned giving Oliver a sheepish look.
“Oppsie…I was gonna make breakfast for everyone.”
“And let me guess you’ve been spending so much time with Lois lately that you caught her lack of being able to cook anything edible?”
Mia pouted as he grinned and walked into the kitchen to help her clean up and get rid of some of the smoke. He called out to Chloe as they worked together to clean up.
“No worries Sidekick our teenager was attempting to cook us breakfast. She promises never to do it again though…don’t you?”
Chloe chuckled as she moved into the room and Mia glared between them.
“Real nice. Make fun of the child, some role models.”
Chloe bit her lip as she glanced at the clock before moving toward the fridge.
“Oh now you’re a kid? Yesterday you were an adult.”
Mia shrugged.
“It varies by the day depending on what my mood is. Anyway I’m starving. I could really use some food…”
Her voice trailed off as she batted her eyelashes. Oliver rolled his eyes as Chloe handed him a carton of eggs and bread. Oliver took it from her and directed his gaze at Mia as he spoke.
“I suppose you want me to make you something?”
“Well…since you’re offering…”
He shook his head and Chloe nudged him out of her way. He glanced at her as she spoke.
“I got it. Can you grab my phone? It’s after one and I need to check on a few things. I’m almost surprised no one’s come busting through the doors to make sure we’re okay.”
“Is it that late already?”
Chloe nodded as she started making breakfast. Oliver patted Mia’s arm as he walked back into the bedroom to grab their phones. He came out in a pair of sweatpants that he’d thrown over his boxers two phones in hand.
He shook his head as he took the seat next to Mia while scrolling through his phone.
“I swear you’d think people wouldn’t know what to do without us.”
“What do you mean?”
Chloe glanced briefly over her shoulder at Oliver before turning back to the French Toast in front of her.
“Well if you ignore the calls from work, I’ve got seven missed calls and or messages from the team. It’s like they’re our very own group of toddlers.”
Mia chucked.
“I’m telling them you said that.”
“If you know what’s good for you you’ll keep that mouth of yours shut missy.”
She ‘hmphed’ and then smiled as Chloe placed a plate in front of her. Mia rubbed her hands together before griping the fork and diving into the food. She spoke with her mouth slightly full and Oliver winced.
“I wuve French Toast.”
Chloe laughed.
“Good to know.”
Mia was already halfway done with her food by the time Chloe placed a plate in front of Oliver. He grinned and she returned it as his phone rang. He rolled his eyes and popped a piece of food in his mouth before answering it.
“’Ello.”
“Bossman?”
He swallowed and cleared his throat.
“What’s up Bart?”
“Just checking in. Are you heading back to Metropolis soon? Victor wanted to talk to you about upgrading something or other.”
“I actually got in late last night. I was thinking maybe we could have a meeting tonight. Any chance you could get the guys to come to the tower around six?”
“Sure thing bossman. I’ll let ‘em know.”
“Thanks Bart.”
“Tell Chloelicious I said hey.”
Oliver grunted before speaking.
“Bye Bart.”
He pressed the end button right as Mia pushed her plate away.
“I’m gonna shower.”
Oliver nodded as she moved away from the table and bounded down the hall. He lifted another fork full of French Toast to his mouth as Chloe sat across from him coffee and a plate of food in front of her. He caught her eyes and she arched an eyebrow at him.
“We should probably talk while she’s in the shower.”
Oliver wiped his mouth and tilted his head to the side as he studied his wife.
“Probably.”
She took a deep breath and swallowed hard.
“I messed up. After we found Dinah and A.C. I should have come back to Star City. I’m not sure why I didn’t. I think maybe it still hasn’t sunk in yet. This whole thing…us being married…it’s all so new. And I’m not exactly sure how to do it.”
He reached out and took one of her hands in his, bringing it to his lips and placing a soft kiss there.
“It’s not like marriage comes with a manual. I’m just as lost as you are Professor. We’ve always been honest with each other though and I think what’s important now is that we don’t lose that. I need to know what’s going on in that head of yours…talk to me.”
She let out a deep breath, voice soft as she spoke.
“I don’t know how to be a wife Ollie…and the thought that I won’t live up to what’s expected…what you apparently deserve, well it freaks me out more than I’m comfortable admitting.”
He frowned and placed a finger under her chin so she was looking at him.
“I don’t think you could disappoint me if you tried.”
She rolled her eyes and shifted in her seat.
“Ollie, cut it out I’m being serious.”
“So am I. Chloe us being married…it’s no different than when we were dating except well this is more permanent and comes with better benefits.”
She let out a short puff of air at his smirk. She knew he was teasing to lighten the mood, but he had been right a few days ago. They had so much to work out and she preferred if they got it out of the way before the team got there later.
“Please be serious. I know you’re just trying to help calm me down and I appreciate, but I feel like if we don’t get everything out in the open things are gonna get all messed up again like they’ve been for the past couple of days. So…I’ll start. The day we went to go pick up Mia…I sort of overheard your conversation with the board.”
Oliver raised his eyebrow.
“Overheard?”
She bit her lip and shrugged.
“Fine I might have eavesdropped but that was only because I heard my name.”
Oliver thought back to the meeting and realization hit him. She must have heard what they said about her. No wonder she had been acting so weird. He sighed.
“You heard us talking?”
“I did.”
He pursed his lips together choosing his words carefully before speaking.
“Chloe do you know why I love you?”
She swallowed hard and gave him half a smile.
“Because I’m a wildcat in bed?”
He glossed right over her joke as he spoke.
“Besides that.”
She shrugged, her eyes not meeting his.
“Because you’re unlike any woman I’ve ever met.”
She glanced up startled and he gave her a warm smile as he took her hand in his again.
“You never give up on the people you love even if they’ve given up on themselves. You don’t take no for an answer, you’re determined, trustworthy, intelligent, witty and I’ve never met someone who challenges me more.”
She could feel the tears pooling in her eyes and he continued to speak as he used his thumb to brush away a tear that had slipped from the corner of her eye.
“There isn’t anyone out there more suited for me. It doesn’t matter what Jack Wilson and the board think. It doesn’t matter what the paper’s or other people say. They don’t know the real me. You do and you accept all the good with the bad. They’re making snap judgments using a persona I created a long time ago, but I’m not that guy. You know I’m not that guy, don’t you?”
She sniffled and nodded.
“Yeah, I know you’re not that guy.”
“Then trust me when I tell you what they think has no effect on us. I love you. At the end of the day that’s all that matters. The question is are we on the same page?”
“Same page.”
He grinned.
“Good…cause I missed you Sidekick.”
She chuckled and leaned over the counter.
“Mm, I missed you too hero.”
He cupped her face with his hands and brought her lips to his in a light kiss. She groaned at the contact immediately deepening the kiss body pressing hard against the side of the island. When they pulled apart they were breathing heavy.
“I missed that too.”
“I’ll bet you did.”
He released his hold on her, stood and made his way around the counter pinning her between the island and his body. She smirked as his lips came down to her neck placing soft kisses along her collar bone. One of his hands slid down her body gripping her hip and pulling her against him.
The contact made her bite her lip as she moaned. He smirked as his hand slid up the green silk nightgown and cupped her breast, thumb brushing lightly against her nipple.
“Ollie…”
“Hmm?”
“Mia’s here.”
His lips found her ear and she tilted her head to give him better access, warm breath hitting her skin as he spoke in a husky voice.
“She’s in the shower…I can be quick.”
“But—oh god…”
His hips shifted against her and he felt her exhale as she wrapped an arm around his neck. He chuckled as he moved his hand away from her breast and gripped her ass in his palms lifting her up on the counter. He sat her right on Mia’s empty plate and she yelped hand reaching out and knocking a glass on the floor.
He let out a hearty laugh and she rolled her eyes as his hands wrapped around each leg pushing the nightgown up as they slid to her upper thighs.
“You’re such an idiot. I’m all sticky now.”
A glint of mischief entered his eyes.
“I bet you are.”
She blushed lightly.
“Oliver!”
“Wow I haven’t even started yet and you’re already screaming my name…and to think I didn’t think I could get any better.”
She slapped his shoulder lightly as he captured her lips in a bruising kiss. She moaned into his mouth and right as his hand pushed her panties aside, his fingers lightly grazing her heated flesh a voice from down the hall called out to them.
“Is everything okay? I thought I heard glass break.”
They froze and Oliver cleared his throat before speaking.
“Fine, where are you?”
There was a slight pause before she spoke.
“The bathroom?”
“You finish your shower?”
“Not yet, like I said I thought I heard glass break.”
His tone was clipped and tense when he spoke.
“We’re fine. Go finish your shower.”
“…okay…”
They heard her mumble ‘weirdo’ as the bathroom door closed again. Oliver laid his head against Chloe’s chest as she ran her fingers through his hair and laughed.
“I told you so.”
He glanced up, shook his head, and moved back as he delved a finger inside of her. She sucked in a breath and he started to slowly move it as he spoke in a low voice.
“You told me nothing...like I said she’s in the shower and I haven’t touched you in days. Come on, live a little. Almost getting caught is half the fun.”
She groaned her palms gripping his shirt as he added another finger and quickened his pace. He watched her eyes slide shut, face flushed, nipples hard against the silky fabric and his eyes darkened in lust. When Chloe lost herself in him she reminded Oliver of a Greek goddess.
So beautiful and full of passion. In the back of his mind he thought he heard the shower stop meaning they didn’t have a lot of time. He could feel her body grinding against his hand and he knew she was close. He gripped her hip with one hand and removed his fingers from her body.
She whimpered and attempted to pull him back. He shushed her and pushed his pajama bottoms down slightly, gripping her upper thighs and sliding her to the edge of the counter. She wrapped her legs around him and before she could say anything he was propelling forward and sinking into her tight channel.
They groaned in unison as he started to move inside of her. They hadn’t been together since Vegas and he’d missed the way her body felt around him, the way her muscles clenched his shaft like she was a glove made especially for him.
He could feel her nails digging into his back as she moaned.
“Oh god Ollie…yes…harder.”
He grunted one hand pressed against the island the other gripped her hip tightly enough to bruise. He could feel his balls tighten and he shifted his hand and slipped it between them rubbing her clit hard. She cried out and her muscles clamped around him, squeezing, pulsating until he came inside her.
He dropped his head to her neck, heart beating rapidly as he stood between her legs catching his breath. She stroked his back lightly as she let out a heavy breath. A couple of minutes later he pressed a kiss against her shoulder and moved sliding out of her.
She winced slightly and he adjusted his pants before pulled her nightgown down. She hopped down from the counter on shaky legs and his arms steadied her so she didn’t fall. He smiled down on her as he spoke.
“Now that was a nice welcome home.”
“Mmm it most definitely was.”
She cleared her throat and he could sense the anxiousness surrounding her as she spoke.
“I was thinking…you know about where we should live and I think Star City is probably the best place for us.”
Oliver frowned slightly as he pushed a strand of hair behind Chloe’s ear.
“I really want you to think about this. Make an informed decision. I don’t want you offering to move to Star City because of our fight earlier. We can figure out what’s best later and for now we can just go back and forth. I want you to make this decision for the right reasons. Not because you’re afraid I might leave. That wasn’t what this morning was about.”
She nodded as she brushed some invisible lint off his shirt and spoke.
“That’s not why I want to move to Star City. You were right before we need to pick a place to live and sure Metropolis is my home, but Star City is yours. You’ve been here for years Ollie and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t just so you could keep the Metropolis branch of QI running.”
He opened his mouth and she shook her head.
“I’m making my decision for the right reasons. I promise. I know we could go back and forth, but we shouldn’t have to. I want to make a life with you…a home. I want to be a part of your life and there’s a whole side of you I barely know. Metropolis is my life…Star City can be our life. What do you say?”
He glanced down into the hopeful green eyes and grinned. How’d he get so damn lucky?
“I say we have quite a bit of packing to do.”
He watched her face break out into one of those thousand watt smiles as she lifted herself on her toes and placed a soft kiss against his lips. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled back for some air before his lips found hers again.
Mia walked down the hall hair wet, in a pair of jeans and a tank top. She stopped short at the two adults making out like teenagers in front of her. She cleared her throat and they pulled apart and turned toward her. She took a minute to glance around the mess in the kitchen.
The broken glass, the skewed dishes on the counter and the syrup on the back of Chloe’s nightgown. A look of horror crossed her face as she looked towards the island and then back at Chloe and Oliver.
“Oh god…guys…I eat there!”
Chloe had the decency to blush, but Oliver just shrugged and leered at Chloe as he spoke.
“So do I.”
Mia raised her hands and covered her ears.
“I can’t believe you just said that. I’m leaving. Goodbye.”
She headed towards the door and Oliver chuckled.
“Where are you going?”
“Somewhere where the adults don’t hump like bunnies all over the house…maybe the farm. Lois is always complaining how she doesn’t get any so I should be safe there.”
Chloe shook her head.
“Wait before you go we have news.”
She turned ad raised an eyebrow.
“What you’ve decided to go for round two on the couch were I sit and watch movies?”
“Been there, done that.”
Mia rolled her eyes and looked away from Oliver’s grin as Chloe spoke.
“Ignore him.”
“I usually do.”
“We’ve decided we’re going to move to Star City.”
Mia dropped her arms from her chest and smiled.
“Yeah?”
They nodded.
“Are we going back to the penthouse? Or looking for a house?”
Oliver shrugged.
“We haven’t decided yet. Are you okay with living there?”
“Yeah, that’s where I usually am if I’m not at school. When are we leaving?”
“After we’re all packed up here.”
“Awesome. Is the car downstairs? Can I borrow it?”
Oliver moved towards the counter and leaned against it.
“No I took the limo. I’ll call down and let them know you’re going to use it. Try to be back by six for the meeting.”
“Will do.”
“Do you need money?”
She rolled her eyes.
“Nope. I’ll see you two later…”
She waved as the elevator doors closed. Chloe glanced down at herself and sighed.
“I’ve gotta shower and get dressed.”
“Need some company?”
She smirked as she walked backwards down the hall so she was facing him.
“I thought you’d never ask.”
Chapter 4

That was great. I'm glad they made but I get the feeling this isn't the end, especially if Cynthia has anything to do with it.
ReplyDeleteAwesome update and I can't wait for more!
I really like this story and I'm happy to see Oliver and Chloe on the same page. I'm a bit indifferent to Mia, though. There's something about her as a character that seems superfluous to me (not in your story but on the show). I can't wait to see what Cynthia and her father have up their sleeves.
ReplyDeleteUPDATE! *Does happy dance*
ReplyDeleteCan't tell you how much I love this fic, your writing is amazing. PPMS!
I loved the Chollie lovin and hope this story has more. I can't wait to see what will happen with Chloe moving to Star City.
