It was late as Oliver made his way off the elevator into his penthouse apartment, briefcase in one hand as he loosened his tie with the other. It was days like these where he was dead tired, worn to the bone, both physically and mentally that he questioned his lifestyle choices.

Running a multi-billion dollar company from 9-5 that more often than not had him in the office until after nine and then patrolling the streets of Metropolis until well into the morning hours, wasn’t exactly the most stress free life.

He paused as he saw a mute glow coming from his home office, before placing his briefcase down against the wall and making his way cautiously down the hall. As he got closer he heard a soft voice floating out of the room and the tension in his body immediately ebbed away.

He stopped at opening of the room, propping his body against the doorframe, eyes falling on the petite blonde perched against the edge of his desk, laptop open, ear piece in. She was still in her work clothes, nothing special.

Just a deep blue, fitted shirt, the long sleeves rolled up to her mid forearm, a thick black belt with a matching skirt, and a pair of what looked to be 3-4 inch pumps. The outfit was simple, elegant and yet completely breathtaking.

He watched her dexterous fingers fly across the keyboard as she spoke into her ear piece, brow creased in concentration, determination in her eyes.

“You should be able to get through now. No go to your left,” there was a hint of amusement, her mouth quirking at the corner as she continued speaking, “your other left Impulse. Yes. Okay great…yup. Sounds good…not a problem, Watchtower signing off.”

There was a small beep as she pulled the communicator from her ear. Feeling eyes on her she turned, and Oliver’s face broke out into a wide grin.

“Hey there Romeo…been there long?”

He pushed himself away from the doorframe and closed the distance between them wrapping his arms around her. She settled hers around his neck and gave him a warm smile.

“Long enough…I’m glad you’re here.”

Chloe arched an eyebrow as she played with the hair at the nap of his neck.

“Where else would I be?”

He tilted his head to the side before cupping her cheek and capturing her lips with his. The kiss was soft, but intense and when he pulled away mating their heads together her voice came out in a breathy whisper.

“Welcome home.”

“It’s good to be home Professor.’’

He ran his fingers gently up and down Chloe’s back, her words setting him at ease, filling him with a sense of belonging that he’d never had before. And this was why he did it.

Why no matter how tired or frustrated he was he’d never change his life. Because it brought him her and without Chloe Sullivan, he wouldn’t have a place to call home. He let out a content sigh as he draped an arm around her guiding towards his bedroom.

Oliver Queen had a lot of responsibilities. Running a multi-billion dollar company from 9-5 that more often than not had him in the office until after nine and patrolling the streets of Metropolis until well into the morning hours wasn’t exactly the most stress free life. But Oliver figured as long as he got to spend his nights in the arms of Chloe Sullivan then his life couldn’t really be that bad.
