Chapter 5
Metropolis
(Oliver POV)
I glanced at the four people sitting at the table and gave them a tight smile.
“I’m sure she’ll be here any minute. I think she left before I did.”
I could see worry cross Paige’s face as she glanced at Piper and Phoebe. I frowned.
“What?”
“Nothing…it’s just…maybe you should call her. You know make sure everything is alright?”
I nodded. They were right…it’s taking her too long to get here. Something must be wrong. I took out my cell and dialed her number. I heard ringing and then I heard the theme from Robin Hood: Prince of thieves behind me. I turned and saw Chloe walking up to us in a daze.
I stood up, touched her arm, and she seemed to be startled out of her daze. I gave her a worried look.
“You okay Chlo?”
She nodded and I pulled out a chair for her to sit down. I opened my mouth to say something, but she cut me off.
“I was attacked on my way here by…a…a demon…”
I watched as everyone’s eyes widened and Piper spoke.
“What happened? Are you alright?”
She nodded and lifted a hand. I raised an eyebrow and glanced around the table to see if anyone else understood what she was trying to say. At the blank looks on their faces I spoke.
“Chlo…we don’t know what that means.”
She shook her head.
“Sorry…I’m still…I still can’t believe it.”
She glanced at the girls before speaking again.
“You were right…I’m sorry I didn’t believe you. I went through my mother’s book…it was…page after page of spells…and information and a whole bunch of stuff I didn’t understand. Then when the demon appeared…it made some kind of…fire ball…I got scared and couldn’t remember anything the book said…so I lifted up my hand and…”
Her voice trailed off and I had to control the urge to shake her. And what….she shook her head again and continued.
“And then I heard it scream, I opened my eyes and it was gone. I killed it…”
My eyes widened and I glanced at the three sisters and Leo. They all looked shocked. Piper spoke quietly.
“You killed it? How?”
“I don’t know. My hand…something came out of my hand. I screamed and it was like the fear triggered something and I felt a sort of power rush through me. There was a blinding light and when I opened my eyes it was gone.”
Phoebe was the next to speak.
“You killed it…without a spell or incantation? Just with your power?”
She nodded. Paige cleared her throat.
“And it didn’t pull itself back together or anything?”
Chloe looked horrified.
“They do that?”
Paige shrugged.
“If they do that, they do it right away. Within a few minutes…”
Leo was the next to clear his throat.
“Well…I guess we know why they want her power. If she has the ability to go around and just shoot demons dead without even a spell…she might be as powerful as the three of you. Which would be a real threat to evil.”
Chloe cut him off.
“I couldn’t control it though. It just flew out of me.”
Leo opened his mouth to speak when their was a loud explosion that knocked us out of our chairs as tables flew and peopled screamed. When the smoke cleared I looked up and my face paled slightly. And I thought the day couldn’t get any worse…

Three Hours Later
(Paige POV)
As I glanced around the room looking at the four men dressed in colorful suites and Oliver in a ripped shirt I sighed. So this is the big secret they’ve been hiding from us. All of Chloe’s friends are…hero types…and I don’t just mean guys with a hero complex…I mean guys with actual powers.
Leo walking into the room brought me out of my thoughts. Oliver was the first to speak.
“How is she? Is she going to be okay?”
He nodded.
“She’s resting now, but I was able to heal all her major wounds.”
He nodded and I saw the worry on his face. I cleared my throat and everyone turned to face me.
“Who were those people back there? They had powers…that put 10 people in the hospital and practically took that restaurant to the ground.”
When no one answered. I sighed.
“Come on guys…listen we know your hiding things from us and trust me I get why, but three people…people with abilities we know nothing about came after Chloe. If we’re going to keep her safe from demons and these people we need to work together.”
There was a long pause when Oliver looked over at the guy with the dark hair, Clark I think his name is, before speaking.
“You’re right. Listen we might not fight demons day in and out, but our lives are just as complicated as yours. There are people who have certain abilities. They are meteor infected and a lot of them are just innocent kids, but some are bad.”
He ran a hand through his hair before continuing.
“Tess Mercer…she runs The Daily Planet and Luthor Corp industries…she recruits people with abilities and experiments on them. She’s always looking for new people. Those three kids from the club…they work for her. She must have some how found out about Chloe’s powers.”
I nodded. At least that made sense.
“Okay…so do we have a plan to keep her away from Chloe?”
Oliver shrugged.
“We’re working on it. What about you guys? Now that Chloe has her powers are demons just going to be popping out of the woodwork forever?”
I opened my mouth, but Leo cut me off.
“No…I mean, well they don’t have to be. You see none of the demons know what she looks like. They are following her power. I’m pretty sure if we can find Chloe’s mother and restore her memories she can cloak Chloe’s presence again.”
Oliver’s head snapped up.
“Chloe’s mom?”
Leo nodded.
“She hid Chloe’s presence until her 25th birthday when she inherited her powers. Her mother can cloak her again if we’re able to find her and reverse what was done.”
I watched as a grin lit up Oliver’s face. I raised an eyebrow.
“What are you grinning about?”
“I know exactly where Chloe’s mom is. She’s safe in a facility where my doctors have been trying for months to figure out what’s wrong with her. Your telling me her problem is mystical…not physical?”
I grinned and Leo nodded.
“Yes.”
He nodded and grabbed his jacket.
“If that’s the case I’ll go get her right now.”
He turned toward the guys and spoke.
“Victor I need you to hack into Tess’ mainframe and get any information you can on the facility where she’s holding the meteor infected people. Bart scope out the area after he finds it. Clark watch over Chloe while I’m gone?”
They all nodded as he as Clark spoke.
“Of course.”
He button his jacket over the ripped shirt and left quickly. I sighed.
“We should get things ready for the spell. Phoebe I’ll orb us back to the manor so we can get what we need.”
Piper nodded.
“Leo and I will stay here and make sure nothing attacks while everything is being set up.”
Good…we have a plan. I guess the only thing left to do was wait…
(Chloe POV)
I felt a hand gently stroking my arm and I groaned as I rolled over. My eyes fluttered open slowly and it took a minute for them to adjust to the dark.
“Chlo…you awake?”
I turned and sat up quickly.
“Ollie? What’s going on?”
He leaned over and rubbed my arms lightly.
“Hey relax, everything is fine. We have a plan. Are you feeling better?”
I took inventory over my body and realized that nothing hurt anymore.
“Yeah, actually I feel great.”
He nodded.
“Leo healed you.”
When I gave him a confused look he waved me off.
“I’ll explain later. Come on. Everything is being set-up now.”
I stretched before getting off the bed and following Oliver into t he living room. There were several candles lit around the room and I could see the guys by the balcony fixing there suits and getting their gear ready, and then I froze.
Sitting on the couch about five feet in front of me was my mother. I looked at Oliver.
“What is my mother doing here?”
He glanced at Piper and Leo and I followed his gaze. My eyes bore into there’s and Piper cleared her throat before speaking.
“We heard that you think your mom is sick. Oliver said that doctors have been trying to figure out what’s wrong with her. Well…we know how to fix it. She’s suffering from something mystical not medical. He we can do this spell and restore your mother’s mind then we think she can help you.”
My mouth opened and closed a few times before anything came out.
“You can help my mom?”
She smiled and nodded.
“But only with you help.”
I nodded.
“I’ll do anything to help her.”
I moved over to where they were standing in front of a large leather bound book. I listened closely as they explained the workings of the spell to me and as I took in all the information I couldn't help my mind wondering. It felt like I was having some sort of out of body experience.
I could see everyone around me working on a common goal. I could see Oliver and the guys planning out a strategy to attack Tess’ facility, I could see Leo and Phoebe working on a potion, and I could see my mom sitting in the center of a circle made of candles staring into space.
Fifteen minutes later everything was set, the guys were heading out and Phoebe, Piper and Paige were getting in position to perform the spell. Oliver pulled me to the side and gave me a slight grin.
“You be careful Sidekick…no monkey business…got it?”
I gave him a warm smile and nodded.
“You too. I’m not here to guide you guys tonight so be extra careful and don’t just go in guns a blazin’, got it?”
“Yes ma’am.”
His eyes softened as he cupped my cheek. He leaned down until our foreheads were touching as his lips captured mine in a passionate embrace.
“I love you Chlo…”
“I love you too Ollie…”
He kissed me one more time, nodded and motioned for the guys to move out. When they were gone I glanced at the sisters and took a deep breath.
“Okay…I’m ready…”
I moved toward the front of the circle and took my place. Paige handed me a piece of paper and told me to repeat it three times after them. I took a deep breath and waited as they chorused together.
“Magic mend while candles burns, sickness end, health return. Guided spirits, hear our plea, annul this magic, let it be.”
They looked toward me, I nodded, held my hand over the candle and in front of my mother as I spoke in a steady voice.
“Magic mend while candles burn, sickness end, health return. Guided spirits, hear my plea, annul this magic, let it be!”
I felt an energy course through my body as a bright white light shot from my hand and enveloped my mother. I saw her body jerk and I went to move, but Piper yelled across the room.
“Don’t break the circle Chloe!”
I froze and nodded slightly. I closed my eyes and focused all my energy on visualizing the healing like Phoebe told me to. When I felt one last wave of energy leave my body my eyes shot open and it felt like someone else was controlling my body.
I could hear myself speaking a language I didn’t understand as Phoebe, Piper, and Paige looked on with astonishment.
“BE GONE!!!”
The white light shot out and burst into the room. I felt my body fly across the room and the last thing I remember seeing was four other bodies flying into the wall before everything went black…
One Day Later
(Oliver POV)
I leaned against the chair by Chloe’s mom as I watched her say goodbye to the ‘charmed ones’. As much as those girls have helped us, I’m kind of ready for things t get back to normal…and when I say normal I mean chasing after meteor infected crazies instead of demons.
They smiled over at me and I waved.
“Thanks again for your help. We really appreciate it.”
They nodded and Paige spoke.
“I’m glad we could help. Looks like you’re going to have your hands full with this one.”
She motioned to Chloe and I chuckled.
“Yeah…that news is not new.”
Chloe gave me a playful glare.
“Mmm keep it up Queen and you’ll be sleeping on the couch.”
I snorted.
“This is my apartment.”
She nodded.
“That’s right it is…what’s your point?”
I sighed and shook my head. I didn’t have one apparently. She grinned and her mother laughed at her antics. I turned my head slightly to the side and spoke in a low voice.
“Miss Sullivan…you’re supposed to be on my side. I need the help…she doesn’t. She wins all the fights…”
Her mom smiled at me and rubbed my arm slightly.
“Don’t worry Oliver, I’m sure my daughter will let you win every now and then.”
I snorted again and spoke under my breath.
“You’ve obviously never seen her get competitive.”
The girls and Leo said goodbye one before they disappeared in the elevator. Chloe walked back over to us with a content smile on her face. I haven’t seen her this happy in so long. When the guys and I got back from the mission the other night I was terrified.
We walked in and everyone was unconscious…everyone except Moria…Chloe’s mom was amazing. She was standing and it looked like she was glowing. I watched as she spoke a few words over each person’s head and as she moved on they started to wake up.
They did it…they were able to restore her memories and fix her. We blew up Tess’ facility and everything worked out. It wouldn’t stop Tess, but it would slow her down and until then we’d take it one day at a time. Chloe’s voice brought me out of my thoughts.
“You’re quiet Mr. Queen…what’s going through that head of yours?”
I wrapped my arms around her and gave her half a grin.
“How incredibly lucky I am to have such an amazing woman by my side.”
“Damn right…”
I laughed and she smiled. Her mother cleared her throat and we turned to face her.
“So…when’s the wedding?”
I opened my mouth, but Chloe cut me off.
“We’re not sure yet…but I’m thinking something in the spring.”
She moved away from me as her mom put an arm around her shoulders and they moved over to the couch talking about flowers, places and decorations. I shook my head as I watched them. The spoke animatedly as one idea bounced off the other.
I could see the resemblance between the two women and I felt my heart soar at Chloe’s hearty laugh. We’ve been through a lot this past week…there is a lot to take in, and even more to worry about later on, but right now…nothing else mattered except the scene in front of me.
Chloe and her mom…talking…laughing…we haven’t talked much about the wedding until now because of everything, but I knew one thing for sure…Chloe had always wished her mom would be able to be there…to be a part of this experience…
Well…now she can…we can finally have the family she’s always dreamed of…that I’ve always dreamed of…Paige was right. I’d always have my hands full with Chloe, but life would never be boring…and I couldn’t picture anyone else more suite for me…
Love doesn’t come around often, but when it does, grab onto it, cherish it, because you never know when it will disappear…
