Ricky stood there Amy’s arms around his neck as Ashley shook her head in disappointment before walking away. He froze his conscience momentarily breaking free of the iron clad grip he had on it. This is what he did when people got too close.

He listened to that voice inside his head that told him he was in too deep and needed to get out and leave before he’s left. Amy’s voice startled him as her hands shifted slightly on his shoulders.

“Well…”

He could hear a tinge of nervousness in it as he shrugged to himself. Ricky was never the type of person to over think a situation. Why start now? He leaned in quickly and captured her mouth with his. Amy’s lips were warm and hesitant sparking something inside of him that he’d forgotten existed.

They barely broke apart before he was kissing her again, hands wrapping around her waist pulling her closer to his body. This had started out as a way to push Adrian away because she was getting too close, too involved with his life and he didn’t know how to deal with it any other way.

So after following Amy into the band room and finding out why she was upset he used that to his advantage. He knew if anything happened between them that it would get back to Adrian. He wasn’t stupid.

He figured a kiss or two would do it and then he wouldn’t have to worry about Adrian poking around his business or family anymore. This was all an effort to get rid of her, but with Amy’s lips against his, hands threading unconsciously through the back of his hair he wasn’t so sure.

Ricky hadn’t expected to enjoy it. He hadn’t planned on feeling anything, but having her against him brought all the memories of band camp back and with those memories came feelings he wasn’t sure he wanted to acknowledge.

Sparks flew through her body as Ricky’s lips touched hers, warm and pliable. She wrapped her arms around him tighter, running her fingers against the base of his neck. He pulled back giving them both a chance to take a breath before he was leaning down again.

When his hand slid up to cup her cheek, their eyes meeting briefly before he closed the distance between them, a flood of emotion crashing down on her. Ever since she found out she was pregnant she’d made up her mind to hate Ricky Underwood. The truth was though, she’d been angry and hurt more than anything.

And although he was far from perfect ever since John was born he’d been there for both of them without fail and she hadn’t given him nearly enough credit for that. Things had shifted between them recently and they’d developed a budding friendship for the sake of their small family.

She knew when he offered to help her that he most likely had other motives, but she hadn’t looked into it too much because a part of her, the part that she barely let out, wanted to kiss Ricky. He deepened the kiss, hand sliding to her waist resting against the skin right below her shirt.

She’d spent months telling everyone that she was over Ricky, that there was nothing between them, but the moment his lips touched her she knew it had all been a lie. She wasn’t over Ricky Underwood…They broke apart foreheads close, breathing heavy.

Confusion filled Amy’s face as she glanced at Ricky, voice slightly breathless.

“What was that?”

Ricky’s brows furrowed.

“I don’t know.”

“Ricky…”

“Yeah?”

Before Amy could say anything a loud wail erupted from John’s nursery startling them apart. Ricky scratched the back of his neck.

“I’ll get him.”

“No its fine you had him all night last night. Get home…it’s late anyway you probably wanna get home.”

They watched each other silently before Ricky nodded.

“I guess. I’ll see you tomorrow?”

She could hear the hesitation in his voice and she tried to reassure him as best she could.

“Of course, we’ll see you tomorrow Ricky.”

“Night Amy.”

“Goodnight Ricky.”

He made his way out of her room and down the hall, heart beating fast, palms sweaty. Kissing Amy had been one of the stupidest things he ever did. What if it hadn’t of went down like it did. She could have kept him from John. This is why he could never be in a relationship with her.

If he ever messed up or hurt her, which he inevitably would because it’s who he was, it would affect their whole dynamic with John. He cared about Amy, which was why he couldn’t pursue this. He had a family now…one that was all his and he wasn’t going to jeopardize it. He sighed. Ricky had never been in love before despite what he said, but if he had, he guessed it would have felt something like tonight.
