‘Random Conversations are Endearing’

“Do you think I’m fat?”

Oliver sat on his bed fully clothed, back propped up against the pillows as he signed yet another paper. He spoke without hesitation as he turned to the next paper in his large stack. “Of course not.” Chloe looked away from the mirror in front of her and glanced over her shoulder.

She frowned at him eyebrow raised, tone reprimanding as she spoke. “You didn’t even look up at me when you said that.” Oliver shrugged eyes still focused in front of him. “I don’t need to. I have every curve of your body permanently implanted into my brain. It helps on those lonely nights I’m away from you.”

She could detect a hint of humor in his voice, but that only made her frown deepen. “Oliver I’m serious.” When he caught the hint of anxiety in her voice he glanced up and noticed the insecurity on her face. He frowned and put his papers down as he spoke.

“What in the world would make you think that?” She turned fully around, crossing her arms over her chest making her cleavage pop slightly from the low cut top she was wearing. He did his best to ignore the creamy flesh calling to him and focused on listening to her.

“That doesn’t answer the question…I’m thinking of joining the gym with Lois.” Oliver was in uncharted territory. He hadn’t had many girlfriends, mostly just women he went home with that were gone the next morning and the ones who stuck around for a few weeks, well they never questioned their looks they knew how attractive they were.

He studied her features and swallowed hard as she waited for his answer. He knew this was one of those situations that needed to be handled very carefully or he’d be going without sex for a while. He hesitated for a second voice unsure as he spoke. “Joining a gym could be fun?”

The minute the words were out of his mouth and her body tensed, the emotions shuttering off her face he realized it had been a colossal mistake. He opened his mouth but before he could say anything she spoke. “You could have just said something you know. If you thought I needed to lose some weight or if you don’t like how I look…”

Her voice trailed off as he pushed his papers aside and stood brows furrowing. “I don’t…Chloe I think you’re gorgeous…I mean come on I’m Oliver Queen…I don’t sleep with ugly women.” He let out a short laugh as his joke fell on deaf ears and at the glare she sent his way it was obvious he was only digging himself into a deeper hole.

He swallowed heavily. “Okay got it…bad time for jokes. But seriously Chloe I don’t think you’re fat…How could I…you’re this tiny little thing…I’d even say you can do with gaining a few pounds.” Her mouth dropped open a horrified look on her face. “So you think I’m too skinny?”

Oliver stood in the middle of his bedroom like a deer caught in headlights. He wasn’t sure which way to turn, but he did know that he was doing his best to ignore his fight or flight reflexes because if it was up to him he’d definitely run away like a coward.

“No! Of course not…I…I…I think you’re perfect just the way you are.” She snorted as she moved over to the dresser and lifted a magazine before tossing it at him. He caught it as it hit his chest and when he glanced at the cover his face softened. He held it up against his chest and looked up at her with a small grin on his face.

“That’s us…we look adorable. I particularly loved that dress…” he frowned, “whatever happened to it?” She rolled her eyes as she spoke. “You ripped it that night when we got back to the penthouse…” He grinned. “Haha…that’s right…that was a good night...” She pointed to the magazine and a look of confusion crossed Oliver's face as he looked back at the magazine in his hands.

“Why do you keep pointing at it? Are we playing a game?” When her glare intensified he sighed and looked over the front page. He noticed it said something about an exclusive inside the magazine so he flipped through it.

When he got to the middle of the magazine there was one of those fold out pages. He unfolded it and the site in front of him was like a blow to the gut. In the middle of the extra large page was a photo of him and Chloe. Surrounding them were photos of what looked like all the women that Oliver had been linked to over the past few years, Tess and Lois among them.

Models, actresses, professional cheerleaders, playboy bunnies…you name it they were there. But that wasn’t the worst part. With each photo there were quotes from said women all being asked the same question. ‘What do you think of the woman Oliver Queen is parading around this week?’

It was safe to say that none of the answers painted Chloe in a flattering light and some were so harsh he actually found himself wincing at the words. His throat was dry when he glanced up at his girlfriend, who he could see was trying very hard to keep her feelings bottled up.

He pursed his lips and motioned to the magazine. “Where did you find this?” She blinked and crossed her arms over her chest. “Seriously? That’s all you have to say?” Oliver’s face softened as he shook his head. “Chloe…they’re idiots…and a lot of them are jealous because here you are…and as bad as this is going to sound coming out of my mouth right now…in the eyes of these women…you’re a social nothing.”

She opened her mouth, but before anything could come out he held up a hand and continued speaking. “That’s not what you are to me…but to high society women who make it their priority to be models or on the best dressed list and other crap like that, knowing that you can hold my attention and they can’t make’s them nuts.”

He tossed the magazine on the bed gripping her arm gently and pulling her towards the edge while pointing at the magazine. “All the breast augmentations, collagen enhanced features, and model-like figures in the world couldn’t compete with you.”

He turned so he was facing her and lifted a hand to cup her face, voice softening. “You, Chloe Sullivan are real in every sense of the word.” Her eyes met his and he could still see a small hint of uncertainty in her features though her body was no longer tense so he continued to speak as he slid an arm around her waist.

“I like that you have curves I can grab onto when I fuck you from behind…I like that whether you’re wearing sexy lingerie or your Smallville high graduation t-shirt and shorts, I still want you just the same. I like that you never try to be someone else when you’re with me…and I like that I can be just Ollie with you.”

He made a face while waving at the magazine again. “I treated them poorly mostly because they’d let me…I could do whatever I wanted with them and then kick them out and never see them again…why would I stay with a woman like that?”

Chloe shrugged and looked down. “Because they’re easy?” Oliver chuckled and placed a finger under her chin lifting it up. He arched an eyebrow at her the humor returning to his face. “Trust me if I wanted easy you and I would not be here right now.”

Chloe’s lip twitched at the corner and she gave him a playful glare as she slapped him in the gut. He grunted but caught her hand in his and brought it to his lips while watching her. “What? Come on, you know I like a challenge Professor.”

“Mmm, I’ll have to remember that or you might just get bored with me too.” He brushed a thumb across her cheek, eyes full of adoration as he stared at the woman in front of him, voice light. “You know, I don’t really think that’s something you need to worry about…”

Chloe’s eyes brightened and she wrapped her arms around his neck a smirk sliding onto her features. “Ohhh have I bewitched you?” He tilted his head studying the amusement dancing in her eyes. His voice held a hint of reverence when he finally spoke. “You have…mind body and soul…”

She swallowed hard at his words and the intense look on his face. She licked her lips, mouth falling open, but nothing coming out for a minute or so. “That’s one of my favorite books.” He smiled, voice barely a whisper. “I know.”

“I’m sorry…you know about the fat question.” He shrugged pulling her closer to his body. “I should have realized something was wrong sooner. Next time if you’re having doubts…just talk to me.” She nodded. “Okay.” He grinned and leaned in pressing his lips against hers.

When he pulled back he lifted her up and over his shoulder causing her to let out a startled yelp. “Ollie! What are you doing? Put me down!” Her laughter could be heard through the penthouse as he carried her out of the bedroom and towards his office.

“Nope…Get ready for a long afternoon Sidekick. I hope you slept good last night.” He slapped her ass and she let out a small squeal causing him to smirk up at her. “I’m about to prove to you just hot I think you are…over and over and over again…”

  3. Oh the line from Pride and Prejudice melted my heart! I'm such a sap lol, but it was the perfect thing for him to say. I love this conversation, though I was laughing cuz I could picture the deer in the headlights look on Ollie's face as he tried to figure out what to say. This is a conversation I could totally see them having, I mean looking back at Ollie's track record I don't blame Chloe for feeling insecure. Ollie said the right things though to reaffirm his love for her and how he wouldn't want any other woman. Very cute! I loved it!
